About Us
Rooted in the Dhamma.
Growing in Africa.
African Buddhism represents a living encounter between the timeless teachings of the Buddha and the cultural, philosophical and spiritual realities of Africa.
Led by Bhante Buddharakkhita, Ph.D., Buddhist monk, scholar, author and educator, this work seeks to cultivate an authentic expression of Buddhism that remains firmly grounded in the Theravāda tradition while meaningfully engaging African wisdom, community values and contemporary life.
For more than two decades, Bhante has worked through meditation, education, peacebuilding, humanitarian service, academic research, environmental awareness and interfaith dialogue to help establish Buddhism as a living African tradition.

To make the Buddha’s teachings accessible, practical, and culturally meaningful across Africa through meditation, education, scholarship, peacebuilding, humanitarian service, interfaith dialogue, and environmental responsibility.
Our mission is to nurture wisdom, compassion, ethical living, and mindfulness while supporting an authentic African expression of the Dhamma rooted in the Theravāda Buddhist tradition.
A Flourishing Buddhist Tradition in Africa
To see a vibrant and flourishing Buddhist tradition across Africa that contributes to peaceful communities, compassionate leadership, quality education, spiritual development, and the wellbeing of all beings.
We envision future generations of African Buddhist practitioners, teachers, scholars, and communities carrying the Dhamma forward with wisdom, compassion, peace, and cultural authenticity.
